X-Trafik delay compensation, taxi and travel guarantee

4.7 on Trustpilot

X-Trafik delay compensation applies to both buses and trains, but the rules change depending on whether the train's full route is shorter or longer than 150 km. The most common questions are about taxi costs, travel guarantee wording, cancelled buses, Resplus and which application path you actually need. This page gives the practical overview before you submit a claim.

Your rights when travelling with X-Trafik

For X-Trafik, the search intent is clear but broader than for many other regional operators: users search for both delay compensation and travel guarantee, want to understand taxi and their own car, ask what applies to cancelled buses, need to know when Resplus takes over, and want to find the right application immediately. Below is the practical summary.

Short answer about X-Trafik delay compensation

X-Trafik's current information uses the same fare-reduction levels for longer train routes and shorter bus or train routes, but taxi and own-car reimbursement only applies to buses or trains running shorter than 150 km.

Question
Short answer
When do I get X-Trafik compensation?
The claim must be submitted within two months. For connections, the delay is measured at the final destination.
How much money can I get back?
20 minutes gives 50%, 40 minutes gives 75% and 60 minutes gives 100% of the journey cost.
What applies to trains over 150 km?
Gävle-Ljusdal and Gävle-Sundsvall are X-Trafik's longer train routes. You can receive a fare reduction under the 20/40/60 rule and cancel the trip if there is a risk of at least 60 minutes delay.
Can taxi or my own car be reimbursed?
Yes, but only for buses or trains running shorter than 150 km when there is a risk of at least 20 minutes delay. The cap is SEK 1,480 per journey from January 1, 2026.
What applies to my own car?
Mileage follows the Swedish Tax Agency standard, SEK 25 per 10 km, for the distance between the stations or stops you would have travelled between.
Does a cancelled bus count?
Yes, if the cancelled service causes at least 20 minutes delay at the final destination. Compensation does not apply if X-Trafik announced it at least three days in advance.
What applies to Resplus?
If one leg was operated by X-Trafik on a Resplus ticket, use X-Trafik's Resplus claim and enter the SJ ticket number.
Which application should I use?
Normal delays use X-Trafik's digital application. Taxi or another mode of transport requires X-Trafik's form.
When does compensation not apply?
Not for Kuxabussarna, cancellations announced at least three days in advance, consequential costs, lost income or parking costs.
